BU2: Very nice design clock
27.03.2014, 11:03
A very nice eye-catcher clock. Easy to build for everyone: only soldering is for de battery tabs, but it is not even mandatory (the clock works very well without battery, and the backup for the RTC is about 2 or 3 minutes without battery).
However, I would have liked to be able to dim the display in the evening. This could also have been programmed in the firmware for auto-dim the display, for example between 22:00 and 6:00.
And some questions also:
1°) What is the purpose of the MP1 contact ?
2°) When the DCF77 function is enabled, at what time does the synchronisation occur ? Is it only once when powered on, or is it happening on a regular basis ?
3°) A 5.1 V Zener diode should be added on the 5V USB input to limit overvoltage from cheap USB power supplies which sometime can deliver up to 5.5 V. Shouldn't it ?
Anyway, it's a very nice object, and I like it a lot.
